Pentair AES provides a full range of water filtration systems and components for aquaculture, hatchery, pond, and commercial water treatment aquaculture applications. Effective filtration removes suspended solids, reduces organic load, and supports the biological processes that break down ammonia and other waste products. Clean water improves fish health, protects pumps and downstream equipment, and maintains the water clarity needed for observation and management.

This category includes equipment across several filtration methods:

Mechanical filtration physically removes particles from the water column. Options include sand filters, bead filters, bag filters, cartridge filters, screen filters, sponge filters, and surface skimmers for systems of all sizes.

Biological filter media provides surface area for beneficial bacteria that convert ammonia to nitrite and nitrate. Sweetwater SWX Bio-Media is manufactured from 100% virgin HDPE with a surface area of 274 ft²/ft³, designed specifically for Moving Bed Biofilm Reactors (MBBR). Its positively buoyant design keeps it in continuous circulation using an air pump or blower, and the constant movement exfoliates older bacterial layers, making it self-cleaning and eliminating the need for backwashing. Bio-Fill, Bio Strata, and sinking beads are also available.

Filter media includes sand, carbon, foam, and specialty media for mechanical and chemical filtration stages. Our lightweight sand filter media is made from anhydrous silicon dioxide, weighs only 25 lbs/ft³ (compared to approximately 100 lbs/ft³ for standard sand), and provides particulate removal down to the 20–40 micron range. Its irregular shape provides more void space and reduces pressure loss, and the bed expands 30–50% during backflush, which reduces the channeling problems common with heavy sand in reuse aquaculture systems. Approved for potable water. Reticulated filter foam, carbon filter material, and Blocksom filter material are also available.

UV systems use ultraviolet light for water treatment without chemical additives. Safeguard UV Systems, Smart UV systems, and replacement lamps, sleeves, and parts are available.

Reverse osmosis systems produce purified water for sensitive species, marine aquariums, and laboratory applications. Multi-stage R/O and R/O DI systems are available with chloramine blaster options for municipal water sources.

Ozone accessories support ozone-based water treatment, including ozone tubing, contact chambers, and injection equipment.

Protein skimmers remove dissolved organic compounds before they break down into ammonia, reducing the load on biological filtration.

Degassing systems remove excess dissolved gases — including nitrogen and carbon dioxide — from recirculating water. Degassing is a critical step in high-density RAS operations where gas supersaturation can stress or kill fish even when dissolved oxygen levels appear adequate.
