Whether you’re seeking design and consulting services for a new operation or solutions and support for an existing farm, we provide the expertise, the equipment and the global resources to address your needs.
As the world experiences rising water and energy shortages, urban food deserts, and the pollution of soils and waterways, there’s a clear need for sustainable new sources of nutritious food. Aquaponics is the future of farming. It’s where fish and plants grow in a symbiotic biologically-balanced system. Pentair Aquatic Eco-Systems is committed to driving the commercialization of these innovative systems.
Why it Matters
Aquaponics uses only 2% of the water needed in conventional farming with minimal space requirements. In an aquaponics operation, fish provide nutrients for the plants, and the plants help keep the water clean for the fish. Depending on your needs, we can design a coupled system or a de-coupled one, in which the fish and plant systems operate independently of each other.
Design & Consultation Services
Pentair Aquatic Eco-Systems has unparalleled expertise which is enabled by our staff of engineers and technicians who possess many years of real-world experience. Urban Organics - Schmidt’s Facility
Urban Organics has converted the former Schmidt’s Brewery building in St. Paul, MN into a fully-functioning urban farm. This commercial-scale 87,000 square foot indoor aquaponics facility is one of the largest commercial aquaponics facilities in the world. This innovative facility utilizes technology from Pentair Aquatic Eco-Systems to annually produce 275,000 lbs. of fresh fish and 400,000 lbs. of organically grown produce.
Urban Organics - Hamm’s Facility
Urban Organics initially converted the former Hamm’s Brewery building in St. Paul, MN into a pilot-scale urban farm. This proof-of-concept facility was constructed to help establish the commercial viability of urban aquaponics before the Urban Organics team took on the construction of the much larger Schmidt’s facility. The Hamm’s facility continues to operate as a production-scale urban farm utilizing technology from Pentair Aquatic Eco-Systems to provide fresh organic produce and locally-produced fish to the Twin Cities and beyond.
