The Calm Before the Storm
The last two weeks have been filled with the usual farm activities and preparing for the start of demolition and construction at the Schmidt location. The photo shows the "before" picture of the warehouse space, and we have entered the calm before the storm. Like the Hamm's location, it's exciting to enter a space that has been vacant for years and watch it transform into an operational farm that will provide food, jobs, and much more!
Before the actual farm components such as fish tanks and plant beds can be put into place, the space will need a makeover. The construction team will be removing sections of the floor and making improvements to the building. It's amazing how much time, effort, and ingenuity goes into a construction project such as this, and we are excited to share our journey with you.
Part of the preparation process for the new location not only involves blueprints and hard hats but involves identifying our staffing needs. This week, we met with the University of Minnesota's Dean of the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) and some staff from Career Services. Connecting with U of M and other local partners will allow us to develop collaborations and assist in recruiting talent. We will need hardworking, innovative, and fun-loving individuals to join our growing team. As always, our mission is to inspire a better food system for the people, by the people.
