A New Age of Fish
Dinosaurs have been extinct for about 65 million years and the ray-finned fishes have caused speculation because of their incline in population. The ray-finned fish have bodies made up of more than 95% spines or rays, in all shapes and sizes, like the lion fish or the Atlantic salmon. Speculation began when scientists studied marine remains from around the world, researching the possibilities of their population increase. It has been a difficult task for researches in large part because fish and sea creature fossils have a very high-low discovery rate.
The reports found were released this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The ratio of these fish shot up dramatically, you can review the rest of the article and results here: http://news.sciencemag.org/paleontology/2015/06/fish-diversity-exploded-when-dinosaurs-went-extinct
