Did you know that our VAKI product line is consistently measuring fish in rivers? We bring to you our Riverwatcher product. The Riverwatcher monitors fish migration patterns in over 300 rivers worldwide in a variety of fish ladders, weirs and passes many in exposed conditions.
The Riverwatcher is used to monitor fish migration. Using infrared scanning technology and high resolution cameras, the Riverwatcher recognizes different species and validates the counts with silhouette images and photos. The Riverwatcher is used in more than 300 river sites across the globe, including Iceland, Scandinavia, Ireland, UK, USA, Canada, Spain, Portugal, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany and Switzerland.
Here you can see two pictures of the same individual Brown Trout going through our Riverwatcher Fish Counter at Testeboån in Sweden. The first passage is at June 13, 2017. The Riverwatcher automatically calculates the size of the fish. Here it measures 77 cm. On August August 3, 2017, the trout enters the counter again, but now measures 89 cm just 51 days later. In the photos below, you can see clearly how much this fish has grown in size and in mass - a fantastic growth rate for just 51 days.
The Riverwatcher counts fish with 95% accuracy, automatically measures the size of every fish passing with 98% accuracy and records a video clip of each fish. Our latest PIT-Tag Riverwatcher enables us to identify the individual fish with 100% accuracy. This gives us valuable information about how fast a Trout can grow in the wild.
Thanks to Bernt Moberg and our Swedish partners Fiskevårdsteknik AB for the pictures and shared data.To find out more about The Riverwatcher, contact Pentair Aquatic Eco-Systems for further information.
